Kaldor Art Gallery

Koichi Takada Architects have recently completed the Exhibition & Installation design for the new ‘Kaldor Gallery’ at the Art Gallery of New South Wales in Sydney, Australia.

The John Kaldor Gallery is the first display in a new floor of galleries, featuring a vibrant selection of works from the most comprehensive collection of international and Australian contemporary art in the country. One of Australia’s most passionate collectors of contemporary art, John Kaldor, has given his extensive collection to the Gallery, spanning 50 years of works from the leading artists of our time.

“For more than 50 years, John Kaldor has been Australia’s most passionate collector of international contemporary art, developing lasting relationships with some of the most important artists of our time. Recently gifted to the Art Gallery of NSW, the john Kaldor Family Collection comprises over 200 works, including in-depth representation of Christo and Jeanne-Claude, Jeff Koons, Sol LeWitt, Robert Rauschenberg and Ugo Rondinone, among others. Minimalism is a cornerstone, with impressive works by Donald Judd, Carl Andre and Frank Stella. There is a strong performative element, including works by Gilbert & George, Richard Long and Francis Alys; an exceptional holding of German photography with key works by Andreas Gursky, Thomas Struth and Thomas Demand; and video art that ranges from Nam June Paik and Bill Viola to a younger generation of Australians such as Shaun Gladwell.” (by AGNSW http://www.artgallery.nsw.gov.au)

“This benefaction is the most significant and influential the Gallery has received in its more than 140-year history. The Kaldor Collection brings not only a new breadth and personality to the Gallery’s collections, but also exciting opportunities, in collaboration with our existing holdings, for exploring and illustrating the art of our times.”
