Koichi Takada Architects is a Sydney-based architecture practice working globally across residential, mixed-use, hotel, cultural and commercial projects. We create environments that reconnect people with nature, respond to place and bring sensory experience into urban life.
Global studio, local sensitivity
Our studio locations in Australia, Japan and Portugal are supported by an international team working across multiple regions and time zones. This connected studio model brings together diverse cultural perspectives, local insight and global design experience.
We work closely with clients, consultants, communities and collaborators from the earliest ideas through to completion. Our process begins with curiosity and a willingness to look closely. Through research, sketching, environmental thinking and material investigation, we allow each design to emerge from the specific qualities of its place: its climate, culture, landscape, people and potential.
Our contribution
From private residences to mixed-use precincts and urban landmarks, our architecture is shaped by nature, climate and context. We seek to create buildings that are distinctive yet deeply connected to place, balancing sculptural expression with human comfort, environmental intelligence and long-term value.
Sustainability is embedded in the way we think, design and practise. With each project we seek opportunities to improve comfort, reduce environmental pressure and strengthen the connection between people and nature.
As a carbon neutral certified practice since 2020, we constantly evaluate how our studio, projects and partnerships can contribute positively, from passive design thinking and landscape integration to urban greening and client collaborations.
Wellness sits at the heart of our architecture. We design spaces that support physical, emotional and sensory wellbeing through natural light, air, greenery, water, material warmth, spatial calm and connection to community and the outdoors. Rather than treating wellness as an added feature, we see it as a foundation for how buildings should make people feel.

We design with a deep respect for the natural world, creating architecture that strengthens the relationship between people, place and planet. Each project is shaped by its climate, culture and context, achieving outcomes that are grounded, responsive and deeply connected to place. We believe architecture can help restore the relationship between people, cities and nature.
Regenerative by design
Sustainability is not an abstract ambition. It is a design responsibility and an opportunity to create lasting value. We seek solutions that reduce impact, enhance wellbeing and contribute positively to communities, cities and future generations.
Form follows nature
Nature is our most intelligent design reference. From organic structures and systems to natural light, shade, movement and materiality, we draw from the world around us to create architecture that is expressive, purposeful and deeply human.
Naturalising urban experience
We believe the built environment can feel more human, generous and connected to nature. Through thoughtful design, we seek to soften urban density, improve everyday experience and return nature to the places people live, work, gather and retreat.
